This lesson will be delivered through a combination of lecture, discussion, and primary source analysis.
- Textbook or online resources on the 14th Amendment
- Primary sources related to the 14th Amendment, such as court cases and speeches
- Whiteboard or chalkboard and writing utensils
- Introduction (10 minutes): Begin by providing a brief overview of the 14th Amendment and its significance. Ask students to share what they already know about the amendment.
- Lecture (20 minutes): Provide a more detailed lecture on the history and impact of the 14th Amendment. Use primary sources to illustrate key points and encourage discussion.
- Primary Source Analysis (20 minutes): Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a primary source related to the 14th Amendment. Ask them to analyze the source and discuss its significance in relation to the amendment.
- Class Discussion (10 minutes): Bring the class back together and have each group share their analysis of their primary source. Encourage discussion and debate.
