Spelling Bee Bonanza!
Today, we're going to have a spelling bee competition to help improve our spelling skills. The learning outcomes for this lesson include:
- Identifying and spelling common words
- Using context clues to determine the correct spelling of a word
- Developing confidence in spelling abilities
Methodology:
We will start by reviewing a list of common words that third graders should know how to spell. Then, we will practice using context clues to determine the correct spelling of a word. Finally, we will have a spelling bee competition where students will take turns spelling words out loud.
Resources/Materials:
- List of common words
- Whiteboard and markers
- Spelling bee competition rules
Instructions:
- Review the list of common words with the class.
- Discuss how to use context clues to determine the correct spelling of a word.
- Explain the rules of the spelling bee competition.
- Start the competition and have students take turns spelling words out loud.
- Keep track of each student's score and announce the winner at the end.
