• Markers or chalk
• Timer

Instructions:

Preparation:

1. Select a list of spelling words appropriate for your students' grade level. Ensure that the words cover a range of difficulty levels.
2. Divide the class into teams of 3-4 students each. Assign a team name to each group.
3. Set up the whiteboard or blackboard with enough space to write the spelling words.

Activity:

1. Explain the rules and format of the spelling bee to the students. Emphasize the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.
2. Randomly select a team to start the spelling bee. The first student from the team will come to the front of the class.
3. Write a spelling word on the board. The student will have 30 seconds to spell the word correctly.
4. If the student spells the word correctly, they earn a point for their team. If they spell it incorrectly, the word goes to the next team for a chance to steal the point.
5. Continue rotating through the teams, giving each student a chance to spell a word. Keep track of the points earned by each team on the board.
6. If a team successfully steals a point, they get an additional bonus point.
7. After all the words have been spelled, tally up the points and declare the winning team.

Assessment:

Assess the students' spelling skills based on their performance in the spelling bee. Observe their ability to apply spelling rules and patterns, as well as their accuracy in spelling the given words. Provide feedback and constructive criticism to help them improve their spelling skills.
