Instructions:

Step 1: Introduction (5 minutes)

Begin the activity by gathering the students in a circle or at the front of the classroom. Introduce the concept of spelling and explain its importance in communication.

Step 2: Spelling Rules (10 minutes)

Discuss some basic spelling rules with the students, such as the use of capital letters at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns, and the difference between short and long vowel sounds.

Step 3: Spelling Bee (20 minutes)

Divide the class into two teams. Display a spelling word on the whiteboard or chart paper and ask one student from each team to come forward. The first student to correctly spell the word earns a point for their team. Continue this activity, alternating between teams and increasing the difficulty of the words as the game progresses.

Step 4: Word Building (15 minutes)

Provide each student with a set of letter cards. Instruct them to use the cards to build as many words as they can within a given time limit (e.g., 5 minutes). Encourage them to use the spelling rules discussed earlier to guide their word choices.

Step 5: Spelling Challenge (10 minutes)

Give each student a spelling word card and ask them to write the word correctly on a piece of paper. Collect the papers and assess their spelling accuracy. Reward students with prize stickers or small rewards for correct spellings.

Assess the students' spelling skills through their participation in the spelling bee, word building activity, and spelling challenge. Observe their ability to apply spelling rules and strategies correctly. Provide feedback and guidance as needed.
