- Whiteboard or chart paper
- Markers or chalk
- Interactive alphabet games or apps (optional)
Instructions:
Introduction (10 minutes):
1. Begin the lesson by gathering the students in a circle on the carpet or at their desks.
2. Show the students the alphabet flashcards and introduce the concept of the alphabet.
3. Sing the alphabet song together, emphasizing the letter names and sounds.
Letter Recognition Activity (15 minutes):
1. Distribute letter manipulatives to each student.
2. Call out a letter and have the students find and hold up the corresponding letter manipulative.
3. Repeat this activity several times, gradually increasing the speed.
Letter Sound Practice (15 minutes):
1. Write a few letters on the whiteboard or chart paper.
2. Ask the students to name the letter and its sound.
3. Encourage the students to practice making the letter sounds aloud.
Alphabet Game (20 minutes):
1. Divide the students into small groups.
2. Provide each group with a set of alphabet flashcards.
3. Instruct the students to take turns flipping over a flashcard and saying the letter name and sound.
4. If a student makes a mistake, the group can help correct them.
5. Continue playing until all the flashcards have been used.
Assessment:
Throughout the lesson, assess the students' understanding by observing their participation and engagement in the activities. Additionally, conduct a brief one-on-one assessment where each student is asked to identify and name a few letters and their corresponding sounds.
By the end of the lesson, students should:
- Know the names and sounds of all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
