Instructions:
1. Begin the lesson by asking students what they think it means to eat healthy. Write their responses on the board.
2. Introduce the concept of healthy eating by explaining that it means consuming a variety of foods that provide the nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy and grow.
3. Show students images of different food items and ask them to categorize them into the five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy.
4. Display a food pyramid poster and explain how it represents the recommended daily servings for each food group.
5. Discuss the importance of eating a balanced diet and how it helps our bodies function properly.
6. Engage students in a hands-on activity where they create their own balanced meal using cut-out images of food items. They should aim to include at least one item from each food group.
7. After completing their meal creations, have students share their choices with the class and explain why they consider them to be healthy.
8. Conclude the lesson by summarizing the key points discussed and emphasizing the importance of making healthy food choices.
Assessment:
To assess students' understanding, distribute a worksheet where they have to match different food items to their respective food groups. Alternatively, you can ask students to write a short paragraph explaining why it is important to eat a balanced diet.
