Exploring the World of Woodworking: Building a Birdhouse
Learning Outcomes:

- Wooden boards (pre-cut to appropriate sizes)
- Hammer
- Nails
- Saw
- Sandpaper
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Paint and brushes
- Optional: Drill and screws
Instructions:
- Introduce the concept of woodworking and its importance in various industries.
- Show examples of different wooden objects and discuss their uses.
- Explain the project: building a birdhouse.
- Provide each student with a pre-cut wooden board and necessary tools.
- Guide students through the process of measuring, marking, and cutting the wood to create the birdhouse pieces.
- Demonstrate how to safely use the hammer and nails to assemble the birdhouse.
- Encourage students to personalize their birdhouses by adding unique features or decorations.
- Once the birdhouses are assembled, have students sand the surfaces to ensure smoothness.
- Optional: Use a drill and screws to reinforce the structure of the birdhouses.
- Allow students to paint their birdhouses using various colors and patterns.
- Once the paint is dry, discuss the importance of protecting wooden objects with varnish or sealant.
- Conclude the activity by having students present their birdhouses to the class, explaining their design choices and the purpose of each component.
